I was now registered for the CA Intermediate course. After having completed Foundation successfully, there was a certain satisfaction within. However I knew that this level was more tough, and that was why I was worried about the coaching classes that I would soon be joining.
I did a bit of class search, and decided to join classes for accounts and income tax. I would manage the rest of the subjects on my own.
The classes soon commenced, and I had to simultaneously pursue my articleship.
Barely a few weeks into the class schedule, I was sensing that the classes were a bit not effective. The reason was very obvious, the class size was huge and most of the time we would not get proper seats even after starting and reaching the venue early. There were a lot of people who used to reach even earlier and bag all the good seats both for themselves and their friends.
My observation as a CA coach is that, classes need to be managed wisely, be it the crowd or be it the audio and mic quality as well as overall control over the crowd. A chaotic situation is not good, whatever be the profit or other monetary benefit. It is the students life that that is being played with. Even amazing teaching gets ineffective when such a situation prevails. I'm not saying all classes are like that. Even with huge numbers there are ways of managing the class in a way that is really effective (I will speak more about this in the next part).
So in a nutshell, I just dropped the classes halfway as my time and effort were getting wasted. This made me more worried even though I knew my decision was justified (I used to consult my parents and seniors at every stage). I was worried because I needed to clear the exam nevertheless and the lack of coaching support not to mention the monetary wastage here made the thought worse. So here I was, drawing up a timetable for study in inter. And I took a break from all possible diversions or distractions. I even took a break from my music passion even though my music learning was going on really very well. Because in my mind, my only goal was now to clear the CA Inter exams.
We had 6 papers back then - Accounts, Auditing, Law, Income Tax, Information Technology and Costing. I studied very hard, and throughout the day. I planned my study well and also did some mock exams at the same centre where I had enrolled for the two subjects. The teacher for the other subject that is accounting, was quite supportive and guided me. I look back and think of his support whenever I think about my Inter exams. So finally I had done several rounds of preparation.
The exams also happened (May 2006). It was not easy, but then I gave my best attempt. After the exams I relaxed and did everything that I had missed in these few months.
With bated breath we checked the results, and it was a happy moment for us when we saw that I had cleared the exams!
