When I think back on my student days I often wonder what it was that had pushed me one of the toughest courses in India. True, there have been several thousands of students before and there will be many more after me, but after all, each one's journey is special to them. On hindsight, I feel by sharing what I went through with young students, I might be doing my bit in their journey as well.
When I enrolled with ICAI as a 17 year old, everything was new to me. The Institute building, the study books, announcements of classes, some of the subjects, the exam methodology etc. I was pursuing CA Foundation along with first year B.Com. Naturally, the days were very hectic for me. I used to wake up early, attend classes for four hours, and then go straight to college. In between there was a lot of studying and exam preparation to do. This continued for two semesters throughout which I had to write the college exams.
Once I was done with my college final exams in March end, I was left with just one month, before which i needed to complete the preparation for CA PE I exams. I still remember that I studied like crazy, for around 10 to 14 hours a day. I didn't waste a single moment during the whole of that month. Of course I studied based on a clear cut timetable. Even though I was from mathematics background (commerce group), CA exam questions are very tough and can't be compared to class 11 and 12 exams. I revised a lot of past years question papers quite exhaustively and wrote the exams.
To my absolute delight, I had secured the All India 16th Rank, and had even got the best paper award for statistics. That was when I realised the true value of hard work.
